For a rainy day

each time
a woman cries
in the street
I want my coffee
without sugar

today
the rain has gone
will come again
will go
just like you

this champagne
was a gift from another girl
who told me
“save it
for a rainy day”

I know a story
that if you drink champagne
and want those bubbles
soft
you add sugar

If you like your champagne
for more than a rainy day
leave a sugar spoon
with its handle hanging inside
just like your perfume is in me

Thanks j. andrew,

I really appreciate the constructive criticism.

It's a sort of tanka/'tanka'esque sequence, but you're right, the second one is more tanka, and the others aren't there yet.

all my best, with much appreciation,

Alan
